One of the most often asked questions I receive as a designer / programmer is when do I update my website? This not simple one size fits all answer. It really depends on what you are using your website for and if your are using it to generate business from search engines. Is it just a vehicle to prove that your business is exactly what you say it is when you meet a potential client and know he/she will be checking up on you? What ever the the purpose make sure your information is accurate and your visuals are worthy of a repeat visit to your site, as business on the web almost never happens on a first visit to a website. You only get one chance to make a first impression and only a website offers the possibility of touching so many potential new customers at such a minimal cost. Use it wisely.

If you are using your website to generate new business contacts through search engines make sure you stay updated weekly or bi-weekly. For best result and if your schedule allows, everyday or every other day for bloggers isn’t a bad idea. And make sure you are taking advantage of all the social media options like twitter and facebook to name just a couple.

If you are using your website mainly as online an brochure and you only care that the clients you meet and give your business too then bi-monthly update are ideal but make sure it is at least quarterly. It reminds you of where you are positioned against your competition and keeps you aware of when it is time to update for another over haul to stay current and keep customers coming back for a repeat visit
